* Flood Advisory for Minor Flooding in Poor Drainage Areas for...
Queens County in southeastern New York...
Richmond County in southeastern New York...
Kings County in southeastern New York...
Nassau County in southeastern New York...
* Until 115 PM EDT.
* At 1120 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. Rainfall rates at times will reach up to near 1
inch per hour. This will cause minor flooding. Overflowing poor
drainage areas will result in minor flooding in the advisory area.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Jamaica, Flatbush, Flushing, Levittown, Freeport, Valley Stream,
Long Beach, Glen Cove, Coney Island, Garden City, Massapequa,
Lynbrook, Mineola, Woodmere and Westbury.

Information:
Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a
* Flash Flood Watch for portions of southern Connecticut,
northeast New Jersey, and southeast New York, including the
following areas, in southern Connecticut, Northern Fairfield,
Northern New Haven, Southern Fairfield, and Southern New
Haven. In northeast New Jersey, Eastern Bergen, Eastern Essex,
Eastern Passaic, Eastern Union, Hudson, Western Bergen,
Western Essex, Western Passaic, and Western Union. In
southeast New York, Bronx, Kings (Brooklyn), New York
(Manhattan), Northern Nassau, Northern Queens, Northern
Westchester, Orange, Putnam, Richmond (Staten Island),
Rockland, Southern Nassau, Southern Queens, and Southern
Westchester.
* Until 7 PM EDT this evening.
* Showers and thunderstorms will develop late this morning and
through the afternoon. Heavy rain is expected with these showers
and thunderstorms with rainfall rates exceeding 1 inch per hour
at times. Some areas have already received heavy rain from the
previous day. Additional rainfall between 1 to 2 inches is
expected with locally higher amounts possible. This will lead to
areas of excessive runoff and potentially flash flooding.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
